Microsoft.com redesign

I think then after about a couple of minutes the idea was born:
"WOW, I have it, you all gonna love this: Let's make this start page,
like it would be some sort of operating system and the navigation would be
kind of a file browser application. Cool, isn't it?"

Well, actually not really. And according to this ”About the new Microsoft Homepage” they spent nearly 1 year to “develop” this.

The new Microsoft.com - You have to check it out to believe…

What happened with all that great designers at Microsoft? It feels like since a couple of years they can’t even manage a simple JPG compression.

Not to mention a prominent pixel difference between browsers!

Looks like someone is developing in FF/IE7 vacuum!

I’m not a hater type at all but this is kind of lame… They don’t even optimize for their own(!) browser?

The biggest problem I see with it is inconsistency. The rest of the Microsoft website didn’t apply the look - just the front page, and a few other pages.

Yes, you don’t have the feeling you are actually browsing the same site, but on the other hand we must truly admit that a website with this huge amount of content is not the easiest to redesign or relaunch. Not only because of the work hours putting into it, but more of the sometimes painfully decisions, which you simple can not make on your own in companies like Microsoft.
