Meet Liam, a nice little guy, whose friends at Yahoo did a great job.

It was time. Really. I, just like many of you, use more than one computer to get my work done, and I’m tired, just like many of you to always face the problem not finding that specific mail, because it’s on one of the other computers. I always wanted an online based mail program, used SquirrelMail a lot, but never understood why this kind of web based mail programs must look like ..., well let’s say not so beautiful.

Google’s Gmail vs. Yahoo’s Mail

I’m not a fan boy type at all, and don’t think something is great just because it comes from Google or from Yahoo. Gmail was great and superb hyped, when it came out - and I simple can’t believe, that the free storage is still(!) counting - but the design wasn’t a design of a mail application a I want to use. Good or bad, but I have a clear vision in my mind how a mail application should look like with all it’s tiny buttons and tons of features.

Liam presents, The all new Yahoo Mail Beta

More or less the guys over at Yahoo have the same vision on their mind, and made a very nice looking and acting(!) mail application, the beta version of the new Yahoo Mail. All the drag and drop functionality, tabbed navigation between mails and folders and even the keyboard shortcut “n” for composing a message are great and make it worth to check out and maybe for a switch too.

What I would like to see in the near future, is to integrate the calendar and notepad functions more in the application, just like the contacts.

Yahoo Mail Beta - check it out, it’s probably even worth to register a new user if you haven’t yet.
