MySpace sucks. Being just a bit ambitious about how you get presented in form of a profile page, MySpace is not an option for social networking. This was a well known fact for the guys over at Unborn Media.
So long story short, VIRB° was born. OK, you could just think oh no, yet another social networking site, haven’t we seen this before already? Well actually not. Not in this form I can tell you. You can feel the frustration - gathered on other social networking sites - in the amount and quality of all the clever little features which makes social networking what it should be: fun. Just to mention a few:
Customization in it’s finest form
This is the biggest ace this site offers. You can easily customize just about everything with the help of the second most mystical 3 letter word - CSS. (Haha, you know what the first is...) You are not quite a state of the art CSS hacker? No problem there are tons of possibilities for you too, like module placement editing with drag & drop and all sort of color customization.
Turn out the lights, I’m watching telly
Well, I know it may sound silly, but this is the feature I love the most. It’s nothing huge or extreme hard to implement, there is a button next to the video player which makes the background page fade dark, so your eyes can be better focused on the video. I love it because on such small but handy features can you get a feeling that the guys behind this, are up to deliver a way better level of user experience, than we are used to on other sites.
To tell the truth the use of Silk icons (from famfamfam) on this reflected not quite well the quality of the site for me, but I think (and hope) it will be replaced before the public release.
They realized, you already have everything
I think the only way to go for such sites launching now, is the way of synchronization of your data between sites and platforms. The guys at UMI realized that today everybody has a blog or a Flickr account already, so just offering the same functionalities (like other sites) will not make you spend hours and hours of copy/paste. I like VIRB°, because I can detect a strive for this with the functions of blog import via RSS feed, Flickr photo feed and VirbTunes for iTunes tracking.

Thanks a bunch!
I heard some really good things about Virb but I could never get an invite and now I’ve got 5 :)
I’m @ http://virb.com/zoran. Haven’t actually customized it yet but I will over the weekend.
I started out as a myspace junkie. Then facebook came along, just as my myspace fetish had grown stale. Now, I am on Virb.com. I love it here, though I have a hard time messing around with the html. With Myspace, I was able to go to one of the million sites dedicated to myspace layouts, if I wanted to do something new. With Virb, I am IN THE DARK. I haven’t really gotten past the basic ‘point and click’. I suppose once I get it all figured out, I should start a “Virb Layouts” site for all the virb junkies! lol! Honestly, what I like about Virb, is it is designed towards artists/musicians. So far, it has been groupie free.
